Cruising ahead: 6 new ships making a splash

Ship: Norwegian Prima

Launched in August 2022, this luxury 3,099 -passenger ship has an impressive 2:1 guest-to-staff ratio. Expect spacious cabins (some with hot tubs and 24-hour butlers), infinity pools, a Mandara spa, beach club, virtual reality arcade, gaming space, three-level go-kart racetrack and a 10-floor high free-fall slide. Watch out for NJT exclusive offers on this ship for example, the Greek cruise in autumn 2023.


Ship: Brilliant Lady

Virgin’s fourth and newest ship recently made its maiden voyage and has itineraries sailing around the Southern Caribbean from December 2023/early 2024. Similar to other Virgin Voyages ships it will have a sleek superyacht design with the vast majority of cabins having a sea view and sassy nuances. Chosen by Cruise Critic as ‘Best New Cruise Ship’ in 2021 (delayed launch due to Covid) this ship really is rocking the boat in terms of innovation.


Ship: MSC Seascape

Launched in winter 2022 with a glass bridge, infinity pool and five speciality restaurants, this high-tech 5,877-passenger ship will spend winter 2024 cruising to beautiful Caribbean islands including the MSC’s private destination island Ocean Cay, an environmental wonder transformed from a mining sand pit into a nature and marine reserve.


Ship: Spirit of the Danube

If you are thinking of trying a European river cruise, this ship blows competitor’s out of the water. Launched in spring 2022, this beautiful 190-passenger ship is one of the greenest on the water with emission reducing technology. Boasting many solo-use cabins it is aimed exclusively for passengers aged 50 with two restaurants and celebrity chef Paul Rankin making guest appearances. All meals and drinks will be included in 2023 and there is complimentary door-to-door chauffeur service on seven-night or longer cruises.


Ship: Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris

Viking’s first purpose-built expedition ship, Viking Octantis, took to the seas early in 2022. Guests will enjoy daily briefings and world-class lectures about their destination with facilities including a lecture theatre, a science research lab, kayaks, zodiacs and two submarines. Octantis caters for just 378 passengers in 189 state rooms. A second identical sister ship, Viking Polaris, has also been launched.


Ship: Seabourn Venture

This purpose-built, ultra-luxury 264-passenger luxury expedition ship offers unforgettable excursions in submarines, kayaks and zodiacs in the Arctic in summer and Antarctica in winter. A 26-person Expedition Team will guide passengers through the numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites pointing out migratory sea birds and mammals along the way. A second expedition ship, Pursuit, will be launched in 2023.
